Programmer application for Vast Horizon: We ask that you answer the following questions to the best of your ability. Upon completing the form, email it to us at the following address: hosts@bunkicenter.net Spelling and grammar are important parts of coding and building. While we get that nobody is perfect, namely us, try to do your best with these so that we don't have to constantly clean up code for typos. You must have the ability to be an active staff member, at minimum, a few hours a week. If you would need to be away for a lengthy period often, alert us of this so that we can stay on the same page. Staff responsibilities reach beyond building and coding. We also need to monitor channels both OOC and IC in the event that someone needs assistance or we need to hand out a few RP points. Also, the opportunity may come up that we can get involved in interaction roleplay. You also must have some familiarity with the game and its lore. How can you help a new player if you do not understand the basics. Having read all this, thank you for your application if you opt to fill one out. 1. Real Name, and Game Name: 2. Time zone: 3. Coding experience level: 4. Current projects that you are involved in: 5. If you have been a staff member of another game, please provide information: 6. Provide information as to what you feel you can bring to Vast Horizon: 7. Do you understand how permissions work in the MOO coding language? Please note you will not start right away as a wizard, but a programmer. Your function usage may be limited, and use of properties. Please provide a brief explnation. 8. If you're a programmer, and you need to change the name of something you don't own, please explain how you would accomplish this task. 9. Do you have an idea for an activity you would like to add, or rework? If so, provide balancing details as well as other information you feel would be necessary: 10. Please complete the following task to the best of your ability. Note that we will not use any code provided by you for application purposes, and this will not be a piece of code that you will use in game. How would you design a 3 unit, autolocking rocket launcher? Please supply code. Requirements: You should familiarize yourself with the Toaststunt MOO server, and its function usage before filling out this question. You need to be able to process a large number of starships/objects in the sector, quickly identifying their distance, coordinates, and check again to make sure they're still in the sector, or in range. A few things we would like this to do: If you type ROCKET without arguments, it should pull up a menu of all starships within 3 units of your starships coordinates. If it's over the 3 units, please filter them out. You should be able to also do ROCKET "KIOHN" and have it match to the first Kiohn starship in range, if one is. If the user would like, they should also be able to type ROCKET and an integer such as, ROCKET 1 and have it pick the first ship that's in range. You do not need to print messages, unless you would like: Verbs you should know: ship:distance(ship:get_coords(), target:get_coords()); sector:at_coords({2, 2, 2}) will print a list of ships or objects, which are at the supplied coordinates. 0 means nothing is at the coordinates supplied. target:add_random_damage(integer, 1) will add damage to randomally chosen components target:add_damage("component name", amount) adds an amount of damage to the supplied component. Note, if an integer of 2 is returned with both damage verbs, your target was destroyed. We leave the rest up to you. Please feel free to add whatever you would like to add to this section. We hope you enjoy! 11. Will you be comfortable with a brief voice chat so that we may get to know you, if just a little? If so, provide times that are best for you. Use game time please: 12. Will you be interested in other aspects of the game such as events, basic RP, and other things you can think of? If so, please provide information:
